Rental Policies

> General Information

Rentals are conducted on a weekly basis (seven days), including transit time for shipments.  Regardless of the type of weapon rented – blank-firing gun or reproduction non-gun -- a simple letter of necessity should indicate that the weaponry being used is for filming, theatrical, or photographic purposes, and that the individual is responsible for the care and return of the items.  A student should supply a letter on school stationary indicating that he or she is a student in good standing, and that the weapon(s) are being used in a filming project.  Production companies need only supply a valid purchase order.

Customers who have not established an account should supply credit card information which is kept on file.  We accept American Express, Mastercard, and Visa.  Information may be supplied on a Credit Card Authorization form found in the “Forms and Reference” section.

At time of rental individuals should supply the following items:

                        1. A Letter of Intent

                        2. A Credit Card Authorization Form for deposit purposes (found in                         the “Forms and Reference” section

                        3. A completed Transaction Agreement (found in the “Forms and                         Reference” section.

*Items (2) and (3) can be downloaded in pdf-format and faxed to us at (212) 947-1233, or presented in person.

Reproduction (Non-Gun) Weapons

1. No special licensing requirements apply for reproduction handguns, rifle,             shotguns, assault weapons, or machine guns, only the letter of necessity or             purchase order and deposit.

2. While possession of reproduction or replica firearms and certain edged weapons is illegal in New York City, exemption is made for theatrical use.  Consequently proper identification as theatrical user and a copy of our Rental Invoice must be maintained at all times.

Firearms

1. Legal proof of residence in New York State must be supplied.  This may be a valid NYS Driver’s License, Voter’s Registration Card, lease, or utility bill showing a NYS address, and must indicate that you have been a NYS resident for at least 90 days.

2. The actual customer is required to complete a Federal Firearms Transaction Record (Form 4473) and undergo a telephone FBI National Instant Criminal computer approval (NICS-check) in conjunction with the Brady Bill provisions of law.  This generally takes about 5 minutes, but can on rare occasions take up to 3 days if the FBI is experiencing computer problems, so try to plan ahead.

3. Upon approval of the NICS check, we will generate a Rental Form listing all the weapons leased.  This should accompany the firearms at all times, since it represents your legal authority to possess the weapons.  Weapons should be transported unload and wrapped, and not concealed on the person.  Please use common sense; what in your knowledge is a “prop” gun looks absolutely real to anyone else.

4. Payment is required at the time of rental by cash, company check, or credit card – no “starter” checks.  Open-Account customers will be invoiced by arrangement.

Rifles, Shotguns, and Assault Weapons

1. These weapons require a Special Theatrical Permit for New York City residents, or for use within New York City, issued usually within 1 hour by the Firearms Control Section of the Police Department (120-55 Queens Blvd., Kew Gardens, NY, 718-520-9300).  Requirements may be found in the “Forms and Reference” section.  No Special Theatrical Permit is required for use outside New York City if you do not reside in New York City.

2. A Form 4473 and NICS check is required, as above.

NFA Weapons (Machine Guns, Sawed-Off Shotguns, Short-Barreled Rifles)

1. These weapons require a transfer approval between licensed NFA Class 3 Dealers on a Federal BATF Form 3.  Transfer cannot be made until approval is issued, usually requiring 24 hours.  Return of the weapon(s) must follow the same process.

2. Rental forms, payment, and deposit are as above.

3. In the event that the customer is not licensed as a Class 3 NFA Dealer, a Centre Firearms Armorer must accompany the weapon(s).  These arrangements must be made in advance, and billing for this armorer is separate from rental charges and will depend upon the location and duration of the service.

> Online, Out-of-City, and Out-of-State Rentals

1. Reproduction and replica non-gun weapons may be shipped directly to individuals subject to their local laws.  A letter of necessity and deposit must be supplied for all rentals.  Remember, it is your responsibility to ascertain and comply with local laws and regulations.

2. All other firearms, whether blank-fire modified or actual weapons, must be shipped to a federally licensed firearms dealer who must furnish us with a faxed, signed-in-ink copy of his Federal license prior to shipment.  You must retrieve these from him and return them to him for shipment back to us.  There is generally a nominal service charge that will be imposed by that dealer for handling the transaction.  It is your responsibility to comply with laws and requirements for your possession and use of these items in that locale.

3. Machine guns and NFA weapons are subject to the approval and transfer process noted previously.

4. A Letter of Intent, Credit Card Authorization Form, and completed Transaction Agreement, as noted under “General Information,” above must be supplied.

*The laws governing theatrical weapons and their use are often complex.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us at (212) 244-4040.
